One twist of fate in a single page of history...
Russia - 1942
The promised American Trans-Siberia main supply convoy failed to materialise and without that vital resupply of armament, Moscow and Leningrad soon capitulated to the advancing German Armies; the only munitions that did arrive, proved to be as defective and useless as they were intended to be, and contributed greatly to the total collapse of Soviet defenses on all fronts.
The Soviet Union, its Red Army and peoples’ militias were decimated into separate pockets of guerrilla-style resistance, and scattered in disarray to remote redoubts, waging a war of attrition that kept huge portions of the German war machine bogged down on the eastern front, and safely away from the European theatre; this coupled with the destruction of the hub of communism was the perfect scenario for the western allies. Using a present enemy to destroy a potential enemy of the future was later hailed (out of the public’s earshot) as a stroke of genius, notwithstanding that it involved a massive betrayal of a close war-ally, and the wholesale slaughter of over 80 million Soviet citizens.
In July 1943 the allies landed in Sicily and by September the main push up the Italian boot had begun. By the early spring of 1944 it was becoming clear that the main European invasion armada was building-up along the Southern-England coast. Adolph Hitler finally listened to his generals and agreed to the the withdrawal of numerous Panzer divisions from the Russian theatre and diverting them to counter the allies threat.
D-Day went as scheduled in June of that year, and the allies managed to get their foothold on the beaches of Normandy, but that foothold soon began to look more tenuous with every passing day, and the allies were faced with the possibility of another Dunkirk style catastrophe that they would never recover from.
The race to build the first Atom Bomb was won by the Americans in January of 1945, and the nuclear option became the only ace-card that made sense, 5 atomic bombs were dropped on Berlin, Dresden, Frankfurt, Dusseldorf and Leipzig. Adolph Hitler and most of his senior staff were incinerated in the Berlin conflagration, and Germany capitulated overnight. This was shortly followed by another two atom bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki and Japan formally surrendered in March 1945 bringing WWII to an end, with a world that then had a single undisputed super-power: The United States of America.
The League of Nations was disbanded, and the fledgling United Nations Organisation first convened in London in 1945, and with the backing of the world’s most powerful bankers and industrial corporations, the headquarters were moved to New York. A global move for a new world order free from conflict and wars was gathering momentum and the concept of a unified world administration began to take shape.
With the world still reeling from a catastrophic war, when most of Europe and much of Asia needed huge funding for rebuilding devastated cities and national infrastructures, the west’s omnipotent banking dynasties agreed to inject vast sums of cash into most struggling economies, provided that they were given tight fiscal controls over the economies of borrowing nations, and while facing an uncertain future of famine, disease and poverty, and fearful of future war outbreaks, the vast majority of nations flocked around a resolution to place the world’s only super-power in charge of creating a global federation governed by a World Administrative Council, and to the drafting of its new constitution.
After years of planning and gradual merging and integration, January 1st 1950 became World Unification Day, and with the exception of communist China who had remained intransigent, the much vaunted New World Order was born.
Between 1950 and 1954 China suffered a (mysterious) series of catastrophic events; crop failures, pestilence, epidemics of diseases known and new; and when a hitherto unknown flu virus started claiming the lives of millions of CLA soldiers, officers, and members of their families, an American Pharmaceutical company declared that it had discovered the cure for the disease. The Chinese Communist Central Committee resigned en masse, Mao Tse Tung took his own life, and China finally joined the global union.
Anecdotally, that pharmaceutical company had previously been known as American Bio Technologies; a research facility that was federally financed, and had been heavily involved in biological-warfare research up to 1954, when it changed its name after being swallowed-up by the now omnipresent and philanthropically beneficent (Mantech); the original company name “Humanity Management Technologies” was shortened to Mantech as a benign alternative to its ominously sounding origin.
In the euphoric years that followed the final consolidation of the New World Order, the world’s population relished living in a world without conflict, and were content to let the World Administrative Council and its juggernaut apparatus, take full control and run things without being held to account, but as control grew in stature, civil liberties dwindled in value and before long, most people found themselves working and living as tiny cogs in a gigantic machine. The machine ran under the slogan of “working for the masses”, a slogan that soon became a convenient tool of suppression of individual liberties. Dissidents were vilified as social misfits and agents of disorder, and dissent was met by the ruling elite with an iron fist.
People in general became submissively compliant and went about their daily lives with sheepish acceptance, but there were some who were willing to raise their heads above the parapets and give voice to their objections, whilst others had foreseen the dangers that lay ahead, and worked diligently for the day of deliverance from global human enslavement.
